‘Contract Attackers” Behind Attack on RTI Activist Tinaikar

Belagavi : As tried to protect the government land from illegal grabbers, Right To Information (RTI) activist Jayant Tinaikar was attacked by a gang which hired by a businessman.

Businessman Laxman Shetty had constructed a club said to be illegally on the government land, on the outskirt of Khanapur. Tinaikar who noticed it was grabbed illegally had collected the land’s documents from the concerned departments under RTI Act. This forced Shetty to attack on Tinaikar.

Shetty, according to police, had hired one Lokesh Kalaburgi for Rs 50 lakh and paid Rs 1.50 lakh as advance money. Kalburgi, gatheted a gang consisted of

Gangappa Gujanab and Bharma Dasanatti from Markandey Nagar, Sunil Divatagi and Manjunath Hosamani from Khanapur, Sachin Yarzarvi, from Tilakwadi, Eshwar Hubli from Anagol and Akhilesh Yadav from Udyambag who attacked Tinaikar near Zadshahapur on March 4 and fled. Tinaikar was returning home from morning walk.

Injured Tinaikar had lodged a complaint with Belagavi Rural police and disclosed the
the name of Laxman Shetty as one of the suspected.
