Belagavi: To avoid untoward incidents over Hijab controversy, the government declared holiday for the Vijaya Institute of Paramedical Sciences at Sadashiv Nagar untilll further order.
As per the instruction of Belagavi DC MG Hiremath, Principal Prakash Patil declared holiday to the college Muslim girl students were staging protests at the premises of the college for the past three days demanding to allow them to wear hijab inside the classrooms. However, college authorities had rejected the demand citing the interim order of the high court.
The controversy erupted after police took six parents who defended the hijab and chanted their religious shoguns making things more sensitive on the premises of the college on Thursday. Since then students were on strike. Considering the growing controversy, DC Hiremath held a discussion with the police department and announced the leave to the college.
