Vijayapur :The students of Government PU college at Vijayapur on Wednesday boycotted the classes as they were instructed to remove the Burkha and Hijabs. The PU and degree colleges were reopened from Wednesday after the row over Hijab, Saffron and Blue Shaws row got heated in the state last week.
As instructed to remove the Burka and Hijabs, (Face Scarfs ) the students who were at their classrooms at Government PU College in Vijayapur city protested and later boycotted the classes on Wednesday. As support their parents also held a protest and took their wards back home.
Despite, the order of the Karnataka High Court order government to ensure no religious outfits be wore inside the classrooms of the educational institutions, the students of the college were sitting inside the classrooms by wearing the Burkhas and Hijabs. They argued eith the staff when told to remove the outfits.
As the authority sticked to its instructions, the students cameout from the classrooms and shouted slogans against the government and later boycotted the classes.
Knowing the matter, most of the parents rushed to the college, who were not allowed to enter the campus. To protest against not allowing to meet their wards, they too protested shouting slogans against the government as well the college authority.
Earlier, Deputy Director of Pre University, Vijayapur Tahasildar tried to convince the protesting students to follow the order of the court, but in vain. An advocate from Muslim religion also made vain attempts to convince the girls. Students said “Alike religious outfits like wearing of Burkha and Hijabs, obtaining education is also our right. No one have rights from snatching our rights.”
Additional police force pressed to the college campuses in the district.
