Kundapur Girls with Hijab Separated from Other Students, Made to Sit in Separate Classrooms

Kundapur : As announced on Sunday that separate classrooms would be arranged to the girl students if the girls arrive college to attend the classes by wearing headscarfs (Hijabs), the government PU college at Kundapur made the headscarf wearing girls to sit in separate classrooms.

Many girls who arrived college to attend the classes said their parents and elders at home to keep continued wearing the Hijab and added that they wouldn’t not remove until the court order. Five girls from the college have filed separate writ petition with Karnataka High Court questioning the college order of not allowing them to attend the classes if wore the Hijab. The court will take the petition on Feb 8, Tuesday.

Kundapura government PU college development committee has decided to identify a separate classroom for Muslim girls who have been demanding that they be allowed to wear hijab in class.

Committee member Mohandas Shenoy told newspersons that the college with a history of more than 135 years cannot suffer disrepute due to unnecessary controversies.
Muslim girl students who are agitating outside will be given a separate classroom. “But they will be allowed inside classrooms only if they remove headscarves,” Shenoy said.

Parents also should support the college administration to fulfill its obligations. The students should stick to the uniform code prescribed by the college
